Among the many head ware pieces in the American Museum of Straw Art collection are its beautiful crowns. Traditional plaited straw creations from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine, they are worn for many festival settings. Most often, however, they are traditional for Wedding celebrations and are worn by the bride. Grains have long been a part of wedding celebrations as they represent fertility and are associated with marriage. Here we have a poppy and leaf headdress of Marya Kravchuk of Ukraine and a crown from Belarus created by Tamara Bludovy of Grodno.
